2021.10.23 18:37 freckledbitchs Mini-rant about the books
So, okay, anyone who read the book series know it's pretty different from the actual show: Serena's not just an airhead she's also extremely entitled and not self-aware at all, Blair's bulimia is showcased but never really addressed properly, Dan is even more pretentious, Vanessa is a total pick-me and Nate is an absolute douche. And I'm only on the second book.
Who knows? It might get better.
But one thing that bugs me.
You would think, being written by a woman, we wouldn't get this kind of menwritingwomen BS but like...
OH. MY. GOD. WE GET IT. JENNY'S BOOBS ARE HUGE.
I swear every paragraph with Jenny focuses on just that. We GET IT. She's busty, the rack is god tier, people confuse them for mountains, OKAY ENOUGH ALREADY.
Literally, that's Jenny's main character trait: big boobs and horny for Nate Archibald (which to be fair is a mood but come on).
Has anyone else ever read the books and is noticing little details that are absolutely aggravating?
I gotta admit as readable as the books are, if the actual series didn't exist, I doubt I would have given this a second chance past the first book.

2021.10.23 18:37 bandrews4795 The Burden of Knowledge is the Responsibility to use it (And how knowing something changes us)
There's obvious cases where you know someone is in danger and have to act, but the point I'm trying to make here is that we, as humans, should make better use of what we know in every situation.
For example: I have a story about how I made a joke that was 'too early' to the point that it preceded the event. It messed me up, because it was a major event. It feels like I jinxed the entire country, if one were to be superstitious. I'm not normally suspicious, but I feel I have the extra time and energy to hold those possibilities in my head and entertain the ideas with a grain of salt.
Maybe it's a reflex everyone has; once you learn something, it's hard to unlearn it without a memory problem. We, as humans, build upon what we know without even realizing it. This affects our subconscious decisions and our 'autopilot' processes in a way that we simply cannot cancel out. Once we know something, we know it, and it changes us.
Trauma is one of the most clear cases of this being true. When studying and experiencing it, I have the distinct impression that the mind is struggling to use information about what happened. When I say trauma, in this context, I'm talking a "Red Letter Day" style, but it holds true for other types. The day I'm referencing in particular was 9/11. Realistically, I was 15, and had no real power over the situation besides pointing out the obvious flaw in our defenses at the dinner table the day before. (I attribute this mindset of thinking about the country's defenses to my military parents.)
If no one's pointing out these things, then no one's going to account for them, and we end up stumbling over something that a child can see without much prompting or access to the information required to come up with the conclusion. I am not trying to make a political statement on the event itself, but I technically knew there was a problem in possibly enough time to make a difference if I was in the right position.
There's a lot of 'what if's' that played in my head and the only conclusion that seems constant is that I should do something if I know something. If I can't change anything now, maybe I can change it later.

2021.10.23 18:37 showmeyourburpees Why do I get shin splints running outside but not on a treadmill?
For the past month or so I've been plagues by shin splints to the point where ive stopped running outside for a week.
Today I decided to try the treadmill to see how things were going. I felt no pain...it was great.
I don't think it was test that fixed it because I tried a brief run 2 days ago and stopped after 2 minutes because I felt the pain coming.
Is there anything that can be cleaned from my treadmill running that can help me be pain free running outside? Or is it it because I'm not engaging the lower leg muscles because of the treadmill.
Though, I've tried googling it, and it seems most articles discuss why runners get shin splints on treadmills.

2021.10.23 18:37 ewdaviduh Is my neighbor trying to lie about their identity?
So my neighbor says he’s some kind of federal agent - DEA or ATF or something involving contraband of some kind, but I’ve always found that to not sit right with me. He has 2 cameras on his front door and 1 by his garage, and upgraded motion detecting lights too. He’s average build, short to average height and a strong NYC accent (I live in the South East US). He drives big blacked out luxury cars that change every few months, and he usually has 3 or more visitors with big luxury cars too. Two things that I find kind of weird are that he’s always, and I mean ALWAYS, outside on his cell phone yelling at someone while smoking a cigar. And when he’s not in town, a group of late teen to mid 20 year olds who blast music from their cars and smoke weed in the driveway take over his place…am I reading too much into this??
